2-Amino-6-bromopyridine is a reactive substance that is used as a preservative and disinfectant. It can react with hydrogen peroxide to form polyphosphoric acid, which is an enzyme inhibitor. This product has been shown to have inhibitory activity against histone deacetylase, which may be due to its ability to act as a linker between proteins in the cell nucleus. 2-Amino-6-bromopyridine also reacts with amino groups on the surface of bacteria and other microorganisms and prevents their growth by disrupting the enzymatic activity necessary for protein synthesis.
