4-Cyclopentylaniline

4-Cyclopentylaniline is a propionyl amide that is used in the manufacture of anorectic drugs and analgesics. It can be synthesized by reacting piperidine with lithium aluminium hydride. 4-Cyclopentylaniline has been shown to have antispasmodic activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the binding of chloride ions to nerve cells. The compound also shows analgesic properties and has been shown to reduce pain in animal models. 4-Cyclopentylaniline is also a precursor for the synthesis of hydroxypropionanilides.
