The band gap of the compound is in the range of 1.3 to 1.8 eV and can be tuned by changing the number of layers. 2-Bromo-9,10-diphenylanthracene can be used for solar cells, LEDs, OLEDs, and other optoelectronic devices that require high optical efficiencies and low power consumption. The compound is highly fluorescent due to its large Stokes shift and can be used as a probe for electron transfer reactions in devices. 2-Bromo-9,10-diphenylanthracene is also sensitive to anion radicals with potentials in the range of -1.5 V (vs Ag/AgCl) to -2 V (vs Ag/AgCl).
