Scandium(III)chloride is an inorganic chemical that is soluble in water and has a high affinity for urine. Scandium(III)chloride is used to measure the uptake of lanthanum, inorganic metals, and organic acids in urine samples. It can also be used to measure the chloride content of urine. Scandium(III)chloride reacts with acids or alkene compounds to form an ionic compound that can be determined by spectrophotometry. The reaction rate depends on the glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
