It has dose-dependent blood pressure lowering effects, which are likely due to its ability to block angiotensin receptors. 4-Aminopyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. This compound is metabolized in vivo into the pharmacologically active amine 6-aminonicotinamide and excreted in the urine.
