The optimum concentration for iron citrate is unknown, but it appears to be between 10-100 mg/dL of human serum. There are some indications that disulfide bonds formed from the reaction of glutathione and ferrous ions may play a role in the polymerase chain reaction process by stabilizing DNA strands during replication, transcriptional regulation, and protein synthesis.
