CAS:N-octyl-N,N,N-trimethylammonium bromide (OTAB) is a solid catalyst and fluorescence probe that can be used in the synthesis of fatty acids. OTAB is soluble in organic solvents and has a high thermal expansion coefficient. Reaction of sodium carbonate with OTAB produces hydrogen tartrate, which can be used as a pharmacological agent for HIV infection. OTAB also has surfactant properties and can be used as a detergent composition for kinetic data. OTAB is able to form hydrogen bonds with hydrophobic molecules and this property makes it useful in detergents.
