2-Benzyloxy-6-nitrotoluene
CAS:2-Benzyloxy-6-nitrotoluene is an organic compound that has the formula CHNO. It is a white solid that is soluble in alcohols and ethers, but not in water. The compound is of interest as a precursor to other compounds. 2-Benzyloxy-6-nitrotoluene reacts with formamide in the presence of catalytic amounts of acid to give 2-[2-(benzyloxy)ethoxy]benzonitrile, which can be converted to 2-[2-(benzyloxy)ethoxy]pyrrolidine by heating with pyrrolidine. 2-[2-(Benzyloxy)ethoxy]pyrrolidine can then be used for synthesis of various drugs such as 4-benzyloxypiperidines, 4-benzyloxypiperidones and benzodiazepines.
