Cadmium benzoate is a reactive, monocarboxylic acid. This compound has been shown to be photoluminescent in the presence of light and can be used as a fluorescent tracer in biomedical applications. Cadmium benzoate has been studied as an anticorrosive agent in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and an additive for polyesters. This compound is also used as a catalyst for cationic polymerization of styrene. Cadmium benzoate can also be used to prepare cadmium phosphite, which is a low-light phosphor that emits red light when excited with ultraviolet or blue light.
