CAS:Dichlorphenamide is an anti-convulsant drug with a chemical structure consisting of a 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(4-nitrophenyl)-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester. It functions by blocking the voltage dependent Ca2+ channels in the central nervous system. The conformational change in the channel protein caused by dichlorphenamide blocks the ionic flux across the membrane, which prevents the release of neurotransmitters and reduces neuronal excitability. Dichlorphenamide is not active against unprotonated Ca2+ channels.
