Tert-butyl thiomorpholine-4-carboxylate is a colorless oily liquid with a pungent odor. It is used as an antimicrobial and antifungal agent in the form of its esters, such as t-Butylthiomorpholine-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria at concentrations of 0.1% by weight in culture. Tert-butylthiomorpholine-4-carboxylate also has antibacterial and antifungal activities against some strains of bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Streptococcus pyogenes, and Candida albicans.
