1-Nitro-2-phenoxybenzene
CAS:1-Nitro-2-phenoxybenzene is an organic compound that is used as a chemical intermediate. It has been used in the preparation of pharmaceutical preparations and cationic surfactants. The synthesis of 1-nitro-2-phenoxybenzene can be accomplished by reacting benzyl chloride with phenol and nitric acid in a reaction vessel. The reactant is titrated with hydroxyl ions until it reaches a pH of 5.5, whereupon the product precipitates out of solution. The hydroxyl ions react with the phenolic OH group to form a phenolate ion, which reacts with nitrous acid to form nitro groups on the aromatic ring. This process produces 1-nitro-2-phenoxybenzene, which can then be purified using chromatographic methods or membrane systems such as dibutyl ether or vinyl alcohol.Formula:C12H9NO3Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:215.2 g/mol
