    Androst-4-ene-3,6,17-trione is a natural metabolite of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone that binds to the aromatase enzyme. Androst-4-ene-3,6,17-trione has been shown to inhibit the production of estrogens and increase sex hormone binding globulin levels in vivo. This inhibits the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. Androst-4-ene-3,6,17-trione is also an inhibitor of the enzyme hydrolysis and may be used as a nutritional supplement. It is one of the most potent inhibitors of aromatase found in vivo and hydroxy group can be detected in urine samples using chemical ionization methods. The detection time for this compound is short due to its deuterium isotope effect.
