Loxoprofen sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of drugs called pyrazolones. It is used for the relief of pain and inflammation in arthritis, headache, neuralgia, and rheumatoid arthritis. Loxoprofen sodium is also a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), enzymes that are responsible for the production of prostaglandins. Loxoprofen has been shown to reduce atherosclerotic lesion size in mice when administered orally. Loxoprofen also inhibits hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, fever, or angioedema after exposure to an allergen or drug.
