CAS:3,4,3'4'-Biphenyl tetra carboxylic acid (BPTCA) is a biphenyl derivative that is used in wastewater treatment. BPTCA can be made by reacting phenol with acetic anhydride and hydrochloric acid in a reaction vessel under constant pressure. The reaction of the phenol with the acetic anhydride forms the ester product while hydrochloric acid reacts with the carboxylic acid to form the salt product. The reaction solution has been shown to have fluorescence properties, which may be due to its high concentration of nitrogen atoms.
