CAS:Methyl 4-methanesulfonylbenzoate is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CH3SO2C6H4CH3. It is an organic ester of benzoic acid and methanethiol. Methyl 4-methanesulfonylbenzoate is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, for example to convert methyl benzoate to benzofuranone, or as a catalyst for the preparation of sodium nitrite from sodium chloride and nitric acid. In addition, it can be used to reduce peroxide to hydrogen peroxide by catalysis. Methyl 4-methanesulfonylbenzoate can be prepared by reacting methanesulfonic acid with methyl benzoate in acetonitrile with the addition of hydrogen chloride gas and then hydrolyzing the resultant product with potassium hydroxide. The reaction conditions are optimized for the formation of this ester. The reactants are heated together atFormula:C9H10O4SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:214.24 g/mol
