CAS 22955-73-3: 1,3-Dimethyl 4-methoxy-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate

1,3-dimethyl 4-methoxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate is a glycopeptide antibiotic that is extracted from the soil bacterium Pseudomonas sp. The chemical structure of this antibiotic has been determined by synthesis of the corresponding carboxylic acid and its esterification with methanol in the presence of pyridine. This compound has been shown to have high yield, large-scale production, and good stability with a long shelf life. It has been used as an antibiotic in several clinical trials and shown to be active against candida infections. The mechanism of action for 1,3-dimethyl 4-methoxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate is unknown but it may inhibit oxidative phosphorylation or hydrolysis reactions in bacteria.
