CAS:5-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria. 5-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol is crystalline and can be isolated in two different forms: the tautomeric form as a salt or the coplanar form. The polymorphism of this antibiotic may be due to its ability to bind to different regions on bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This antibiotic also has anti-fungal properties because it binds to sterols in fungal membranes.
