The proton of the epoxide group can be transferred to another molecule or acceptor, which may result in a new product or an epoxide with a different number of carbons. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been used to identify fatty acids and fatty alcohols in 1,2-epoxydecane. Chemical structures have been created for the production of 1,2-epoxydecane and its reactants.
