It is a colorless solid and the chloride salt is a white powder. 5-Bromo-2,3-diphenylpyrazine has been used as a precursor to copper complexes that are active in organic synthesis. The compound has also been found to be useful for the cleavage of ester groups, including those found in drugs such as aspirin and acetaminophen. 5-Bromo-2,3-diphenylpyrazine can be synthesized by reacting dimethylformamide with bromination or chlorination agents.
