5-Hydroxyisoquinoline is a quinoline derivative that is synthesized from aziridine. It has been shown to be a potent insulin sensitizing agent in mice with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 5-Hydroxyisoquinoline has been shown to inhibit the activity of purified enzymes preparations and show high selectivity for chloride channels, which are responsible for the transport of chloride ions across cell membranes.
