Iperoxo is a potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that binds to the acetylcholine receptor and blocks the activity of this enzyme. Iperoxo has been shown to inhibit the growth of mouse hippocampal cells and lung fibroblasts in vitro, which may be due to its ability to activate the acetylcholine receptor. This drug also has been shown to have an effective dose in mice and rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in these species.

Iperoxo (Iperoxo iodide) is an agonist of Muscarinic AChR and can be used to probe activation-related conformational transitions of muscarinic receptors.
