    Hexadecyl methacrylate is an ester of methacrylic acid and a fatty alcohol. It is used as a coagulation factor in blood plasma, and can be used as a control agent for cationic polymerization. Hexadecyl methacrylate is also used as the reactive site in the chemical cross-linking of polymers. The hydroxyl group on the hexadecyl group participates in hydrogen bonding with other molecules, which are important for reactions that require high activation energies. The reactive site has been shown to have an effective dose of 3% to 5%.
