This compound has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells by binding to DNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. 2-Methoxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde also induces the M2 phenotype in macrophages and induces the production of fluorescent ethyl cinnamate from dihydrobenzofuran.
