    CAS:
Poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) is a high molecular weight polymer that exhibits significant cytotoxicity in cancer cells. This polymer has been shown to produce light emission, which has been shown to be due to the presence of nitrogen atoms. The optimum concentration for light emission is between 2 and 5%. PVK can be cationically polymerized by adding a strong base such as potassium hydroxide or lithium hydroxide. This process leads to morphological changes in the polymer, with an increased degree of branching and crosslinking. PVK films are also highly absorbing, with an absorption coefficient at 550 nm of 1.2 x 10 cm/cm. Transport properties and chemical interactions have not been studied extensively but they are thought to be dependent on morphology and molecular weight.
