It is a nonselective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) that blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins and leukotrienes. 5-(3-Fluorophenyl)-7-nitro-1,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one has been shown to inhibit COX activity in human serum and liver tissue samples. This compound also inhibits LOX activity in urine samples from patients with inflammatory diseases. It has been shown to exhibit single dose pharmacokinetic properties in healthy volunteers.
