  • 4-(4-Methylpiperazino)benzaldehyde

    CAS:
    4-(4-Methylpiperazino)benzaldehyde (MPBA) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that has been shown to have potent inhibition of bacterial efflux pumps. MPBA has also been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the multidrug efflux pump, P-glycoprotein, and its analogs. MPBA has been found to have hemolytic activity in the presence of human erythrocytes and a reactive functional group that may be involved in the binding process. The compound also shows potent inhibition of bacterial growth with MIC values ranging from 0.05 to 1 μg/mL for staphylococcus isolates. MPBA has been found to exhibit optical properties in the ultraviolet region, which may be useful for applications such as photodynamic therapy.
