3,4-Epoxytetrahydrofuran is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H8O2. It is a cyclic ether that can be synthesized by the reaction of epichlorohydrin and propylene oxide. The compound has two stereoisomers (R and S) due to the chiral nature of the propylene oxide starting material. 3,4-Epoxytetrahydrofuran is used in the production of acrylonitrile, which is used in the production of plastics. 3,4-Epoxytetrahydrofuran has been shown to have strong inhibitory effects on fungus Penicillium rubrum. This compound also inhibits germination rates in some plants.
