3-[(Methylsulfonyl)amino]benzoic acid is a vasodilator that is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It has been shown to have agonistic effects on α-adrenergic receptors and may be used as an alternative to other vasodilators, such as nitrates or calcium channel blockers, which are not effective in some patients. 3-[(Methylsulfonyl)amino]benzoic acid also has racemic compounds with the same chemical structure but different spatial arrangements of atoms. The racemic form is available for oral administration, while the pure enantiomer form is available for intravenous use.
