  • Isophorone diamine(cis/trans mixture)

    Isophorone diamine is an organic compound with the formula (CH)C(NH)NH. It can be obtained by reacting ethylene diamine with methanol as solvent, or by hydrogenation of aniline. The cis/trans isomerism arises from the configuration of the methyl groups attached to the amine nitrogen atoms. Isophorone diamine is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. This compound has been used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for determining the presence of hydroxyl group in chemical reactions. Isophorone diamine reacts with acids to form salts, such as ammonium bisulfate and ammonium sulfate. Kinetic studies have shown that this reaction proceeds through a stepwise mechanism involving two consecutive nucleophilic additions followed by elimination of water, leading to a highly reactive intermediate.
