2-Ethynyl-3-hexylthiophene is a terminal organic molecule. It has the ability to catalyze cross-coupling reactions, which are stepwise reactions that involve the coupling of two or more electrophiles with an electron donor. 2-Ethynyl-3-hexylthiophene can catalyze the reaction of amines and halides in the presence of organometallic reagents such as phosphines and hydrocarbon groups. In these reactions, the hydrogen atom of an amine is replaced by a halide. The product can be obtained in high yield through electrochemical studies. 2-Ethynyl-3-hexylthiophene also has the ability to couple with sulfoxides. This reaction is irreversible and it is not possible to synthesize this compound from its components.
