CAS:4-Amino-DL-phenylalanine (4AP) is an inhibitor that binds to the receptor binding site on the surface glycoprotein of E. coli, thereby inhibiting the attachment of this bacterium to host cells. 4AP has been shown to inhibit the growth of pathogens such as Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi, Shigella flexneri, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 4AP also has a hydroxyl group that can react with other molecules by transfer reactions, which may be important for its antimicrobial activity. The chemical stability of 4AP allows it to maintain its biological properties in vivo.
