CAS:5-Nitro-1,3-benzothiazole is a cytosolic fluorescent probe that has been shown to be activated by the presence of Ca2+. It has been used in microscopy experiments to study the uptake and distribution of 5-nitro-1,3-benzothiazole in human cervical carcinoma cells. The use of this compound as a fluorescent probe highlights the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration. 5-Nitro-1,3-benzothiazole also shows selectivity for vacuolar versus cytoplasmic Ca2+, with it being more distributed in the latter. This compound is synthesized from nitric acid and benzene through two steps: nitration followed by hydrolysis. The first step produces nitronitrosobenzene, which reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form an intermediate called aestivum. Aestivum then reacts with ammonia to form 5-nitrobenzoic acid whichFormula:C7H4N2SO2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:180.18 g/mol5-Nitro-1,3-benzothiazole
