4-Chloro-6-methyl-2-phenylpyrimidine
CAS:4-Chloro-6-methyl-2-phenylpyrimidine (4CMP) is a synthetic analogue of phenylpyruvate that exhibits electrophilic properties and has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of glutathione synthesis. 4CMP is known to induce apoptosis in cells and is also capable of inducing the transcriptional response associated with oxidative stress. The transcriptome data show that 4CMP induces expression of genes associated with lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid oxidation, as well as certain oxylipins and their synthesizing enzymes. These findings suggest that 4CMP may have an inhibitory effect on the synthesis of fatty acids, which are important for cellular metabolism and membrane integrity. The transcriptional response induced by 4CMP indicates that it has the ability to amplify the effects of other oxidative stresses by inducing the production of specific oxylipins such as 12(S)-HETE.
