It has been shown to activate energy metabolism in human neutrophils and HL-60 cells, as well as guanine nucleotide binding and transmembrane transport. 5-Doxyl stearic acid was found to have no significant effect on the regulation of cellular membrane fluidity or on the permeability of biological membranes. It also has no significant effects on human erythrocytes, human serum, or human plasma. This compound is a cyclic peptide with a magnesium salt that can be used for fluorescent probe studies and has been used to develop a model system for studying G protein coupled receptors.
