CAS:S-Benzyl-L-cysteine is a sulfhydryl compound that can be used to synthesize free radical scavengers. It can be used as a model protein to study the formation of acid in polymer films and its effect on the stability of the film. S-Benzyl-L-cysteine also reacts with trifluoroacetic acid in human serum, forming an acid conjugate. This conjugate is then excreted by the kidneys into urine, which has been shown to have a physiological function. The pH profile and optimum pH for S-benzyl-L-cysteine are 7.4 and 8 respectively. S-benzyl-L-cysteine has been shown to chelate metal ions and inhibit cell growth in cell culture studies with rat liver microsomes. Biochemical properties include inhibition of lipid peroxidation, antioxidant activity, and inhibition of hepatic drug metabolizing enzymes such as cytochromeFormula:C10H13NO2SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:211.28 g/molH-Cys(Bzl)-OH
