It has been shown to inhibit the activity of glutamate receptors and in vitro has been shown to inhibit the activity of the NMDA receptor subtype. 5-Cyanothiophene-2-boronic acid binds to purine derivatives such as adenosine, which are ligands for hydrogen bond acceptors.
