It has been shown to be effective in reducing the surface tension of water and increasing the wetting properties of hydrophobic surfaces. N-dodecyltrimethoxysilane has also been shown to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of zirconium oxide and other metal oxides. In addition, it can be used as a stabilizer for magnetic particles by binding to boron nitride or silica gel.
