It has been shown to be a cardiac immobilizer, oxidant and diagnostic agent for cardiovascular diseases. 4-Formylphthalonitrile can be prepared by reacting phthalonitrile with formaldehyde. This compound has also been shown to have biological properties such as immobilization of cells, prevention of protein aggregation, and induction of apoptosis. 4-Formylphthalonitrile has been used to study the interaction between diazonium salts and monolayers as well as its use as a diagnostic agent for cardiovascular diseases.
