    2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-4-piperidyl Methacrylate (TEMPM) is a monomer that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth at neutral pH and is not toxic to mammalian cells. TEMPM has also been shown to be a potential coating for medical devices that are inserted into the body. TEMPM can be used for coating or photoalignment in order to prevent bacterial adhesion. TEMPM may also be used as a monomer for polymers such as polyester and polyurethane. The chemical structure of this compound was first determined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. TEMPM may also act as an acid catalyst in the synthesis of 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid from 3-chlorobenzoic acid and hydrochloric acid.
