3-(Pyridin-2-ylthio)propanoic acid is an experimental drug that has been shown to be effective in a number of animal models. It is an inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A, which is involved in the regulation of a variety of cellular processes, including cell division and differentiation. 3-(Pyridin-2-ylthio)propanoic acid has been shown to be selective for protein phosphatase 2A over other protein phosphatases. This drug has also been shown to be active against unfixed cells and isolated rat liver, as well as sensitive to electron microscopy. 3-(Pyridin-2-ylthio)propanoic acid was not found to crosslink proteins or form detergent insoluble complexes with membrane proteins.
