2-Fluoro-5-methylbenzoic acid
CAS:2-Fluoro-5-methylbenzoic acid is a hydroxybenzaldehyde that is an analog of 2,4-dinitrophenol. It was synthesized by the fluorination of 2,5-dimethylaniline with a mixture of hydrogen fluoride and potassium bifluoride in ether. The compound has been characterized by its spectra and bioconversion to different hydroxybenzaldehydes. 2-Fluoro-5-methylbenzoic acid has been studied as a substrate for oxidation reactions catalyzed by enzymes such as oxidases, reductases, or peroxidases. In experiments with naphthalene, it was found to be stoichiometric with respect to the conversion of the substrate to the product. The compound also reacts with anisole in a 1:1 ratio to produce detectable amounts of nitrobenzaldehyde.Formula:C8H7FO2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:154.14 g/mol2-Fluoro-5-methylbenzoic acid
