1,1-Dichloro-2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl Difluoromethyl Ether is a volatile anesthetic that has been shown to be safe for use in both children and adults. It is used as a general anesthetic in humans and animals. 1,1-Dichloro-2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl Difluoromethyl Ether has been shown to modulate the transcriptional response of genes induced by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNFα. This modulation may be due to the inhibition of oxygen radicals generated by the inflammatory response. The anesthetic also inhibits the production of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) which is responsible for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO).
