CAS:5,5,6-Trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one is a starting material for the synthesis of prostaglandins and related compounds. It is prepared by reacting butyllithium with acetonitrile in the presence of nucifera and yields of this reaction are determined using chromatographic methods. The interactions of 5,5,6-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one with benzene and benzonitrile have been explored computationally and are found to be energetically favourable.
