  • Z-L-proline 4-nitrophenyl ester

    Z-L-proline 4-nitrophenyl ester is a synthetic protease inhibitor that is active at acidic pH. It has been shown to be effective against the proteolytic activity of soybean trypsin and collagenase. Z-L-proline 4-nitrophenyl ester also stabilizes fibrinogen and inhibits the lysis of cells in culture, making it useful for cell culture work. This agent has been shown to inhibit the activity of a number of proteases including those from animals, bacteria, and yeast. The synthesis of this compound was based on the structure of the natural substrate, L-proline, which is found in proteins throughout nature. The sequence of this compound is related to that found in some natural protein inhibitors such as sephacryl and benzamidine.
