2,8,9-Triisobutyl-2,5,8,9-tetraaza-1-phosphabicyclo[3.3.3]undecane is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have a protective effect against metabolic disorders and other syndromes caused by damaged lipids. This drug binds to the active site of the enzyme diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) and inhibits lipid synthesis in cells. The fluorine atom in this compound may also provide some protection against damage by free radicals. 2,8,9-Triisobutyl-2,5,8,9-tetraaza-1-phosphabicyclo[3.3.3]undecane is marketed under the trade name of Lipexal and is used as an adjunct therapy for patients with type II diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia.
