The time required for the reaction to complete is dependent on the substrate and other factors such as solvent and temperature. This compound has been used as a substitute for 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid in the fluorescence lifetime method of determining boron content in polymers. 9,9-Dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-ylbromide has been used to synthesize cyclotriphosphazene fluorescent compounds such as cyclotetraphenylethynylenes and pentaphenylethynylenes. These compounds are then analyzed by gel permeation chromatography to determine their molecular weight and purity.
