This compound has been used as a substitute for 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid in the fluorescence lifetime method of determining boron content in polymers. 9,9-Dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-ylbromide has been used to synthesize cyclotriphosphazene fluorescent compounds such as cyclotetraphenylethynylenes and pentaphenylethynylenes.
