Diethyl (phthalimidomethyl)phosphonate is a synthetic compound that is stable in the presence of air and moisture. It has been shown to form stable complexes with carbonyl groups, alkynyl groups, and hydroxyl groups. It has also been used as a reagent for the synthesis of serine protease inhibitors. Diethyl (phthalimidomethyl)phosphonate reacts with butyllithium to produce an alkylthio group, which can be further reacted with hexane to produce a linker. This compound contains a phosphorous acid group that is synthesised from formaldehyde and phosphorous acid.
