CAS 34622-08-7: Neodymium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate

Neodymium trifluoromethanesulfonate is an amine salt of neodymium with the formula Nd(CF3SO3)3. It is used in coordination chemistry as a source of neodymium ions, and can be purified by crystallization from solution. Neodymium trifluoromethanesulfonate reacts with hydroxyl groups to give Nd(OH)(CF3SO3)2 and it reacts with polyols to give Nd(OH)(CF3SO3)R (R=H or OH). This compound is stable at high temperatures and resistant to hydrogen chloride and sodium sulfide.

Neodymium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate is used in the Aldol reaction of silyl enol ethers with aldehydes and as a catalyst for dehydration of fructose, Diels-Alder reactions of cyclopentadiene and alkyl acrylates, α-amination reactions of pyrazolones, polymerization reactions of cyclosiloxanes, direct polycondensation of dicarboxylic acids and diols, regioselective reductive ring opening of benzylidene acetals, Paal-Knorr cyclocondensation and nitration of benzene.
