CAS:2-Phenoxynicotinic acid is a drug that inhibits the activity of nitric oxide synthase, an enzyme involved in the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a gas that is produced by macrophages and other cells in response to inflammation or injury. It has been shown that 2-Phenoxynicotinic acid inhibits the production of nitric oxide in vitro. This drug has been used clinically to treat cardiovascular disorders and diseases, including arrhythmias, hypertension, angina pectoris, and coronary artery disease. 2-Phenoxynicotinic acid has also been shown to be effective against leishmania parasites. It binds to glutathione s-transferase, an enzyme that is found on the surface of cells and plays an important role in cellular detoxification processes.
